There will be more Sophie and also Gideon in Clockwork Princess. Things have been set up with them that have to resolve in some way. They will continue their character arcs, whether separately or together.

Alec’s family is probably descended from Gideon. After all, Alec’s middle name is Gideon. Why else would they call him that?
